Le basque: une langue riche –
le français: une langue pauvre
Le français a un vocabulaire pauvre (André Martinet (Sorbonne)) (il doit très souvent puiser directement dans le réservoir sémantique grec et latin pour former ses mots; de plus, le système de dérivation est inefficace). Le basque a, par contre, un vocabulaire plus riche, en bonne partie grâce aux lexèmes formés suivant un système de dérivation performant.
Le rapprochement sémantique entre les différents lexèmes basques présentés est ainsi immédiatement perçu par le locuteur basque. Ce n'est nullement le cas du francophone pour les termes correspondants en français.
Enfin, n'oublions pas le système orthographique désolant du français, comparé au basque...
Comparons:
French has a poor vocabulary (André Martinet (Sorbonne University - Paris)) (it must often borrow words from Greek and Latin to make new words and the derivation system is inefficient). In comparison, Basque has a more developed vocabulary, mostly thanks to an efficient derivation system.
Moreover, the close semantic link between the different lexemes listed here can be directly observed by the Basque speaker. This is not the case for the corresponding French words.
At last, let us not forget the appalling French spelling system, compared to the Basque one...
